5 Fun School Holiday Crafts

Bust the holiday boredom with five more fun activities for afterschool programs.

1. Bouncy Balls

Nothing is cooler to a kid than a bouncy ball, so what could be better than making your own? Nothing, that's what...unless it's making your own glow-in-the-dark bouncy balls!

2. Magnetic Field Sensory Bottle

Magnetic ink floating in water lets kids see the elusive field of a magnet, and adds some science to your holiday OSCAR activities. This craft is fun to make, but even more mesmerising to play with!

3. Bird Feeders

Provide supplies to make a variety of different bird feeders for different birds. Make it more educational by asking kids to observe birds in their garden at home and think about what kind of food, container and decoration would most attract them—or just follow a tried and true recipe. 

4. Emoji Bookmarks

Whatever your After School Care support goal, if you are not adding value to the people who follow you, they will stop. Whenever you post, put yourself in the shoes of your audience and ask "What's In It For Me" (WIIFM)? It can be as small as making people smile, as large as making (and proving) promises, or as everyday as regularly reassuring parents that their kids are safe and having fun. Side note—research says social media users love photos and video, so use these as often as you can.

5. Toilet Roll Tube Contest

Ask kids to save and bring along cardboard toilet roll tubes to "recycle", and kick off contest day with a prize for the most gathered. Then the competition begins! Who can make the funniest, most interesting, most useful or most unusual item from toilet rolls and simple craft supplies? Set competition rules and guidelines such as maximum and minimum roll numbers, whether or not bartering craft supplies and toilet rolls is allowed, teams or individuals...or let inspiration run wild and may creativity win the day!
